Francis Chaves Rodriguez

Starting this fall I will be working as a PhD student with Dr. Melinda Smith. I am a Fulbrighter from Colombia where I obtained my MS degree in Biology at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. My research experience includes plant reproductive biology, pollination biology, population ecology and life histories of plants, mostly in the "p???¡ramo", an unique high Andean ecosystem, which plays a key role in water supply. I also have experience as a professor for undergraduate Biology students. My interest is the role of biodiversity in ecosystem functions, understanding the functional role of the species in the structure of ecological communities and the functional consequences of species loss. My goal is in the future apply this knowledge in my home country in the restoration of degraded tropical ecosystems.
